DISCERNING
i. Distinguish between revelation and inspiration: - Revelation discloses that which was hidden. Inspiration implies that the writer is perceived from error in recording that revelation/ e.g. The Ten Commandments.
ii. Inspiration does not always imply revelation: - Moses was inspired to record events which he experienced himself and were therefore within the scope of his knowledge.
iii. Distinguish between uninspired words inspired records: - Satan’s utterances in the bible were not God-inspired when he said them; but the record of those satanic utterances is inspired.
10/04/09 THE VERIFICATION OF THE SCRIPTURES
i. They claim to be Inspired: - Over 2,600 times, the term “and God said” or its equivalent is used in the Bible. Men under special inspiration wrote what God said and instructed them to write. Ex 24:4, 34:28. Christ himself endorsed the truth and authority of the Old Testament by quoting it and living in harmony with its teaching. Matt 5:15, John 10:35, Luke 18:31-33. The New Testament claims to give a fuller and clearer revelation of God than the Old Testament and authoritatively declares the abrogation of the old laws. Therefore, if the Old Testament is inspired, so.
ii. They Appear to be Inspired:- The character of scriptures supports its claims, its accuracy, its amazing unity, sixty six books written by about forty different authors, over a period of 1600 years and covering a variety of topics, it nevertheless carries a unity of theme and purpose that can be explained only by one super intending mind.
iii. They claim to be inspired
iv. They appear to be inspired: - Content contains the most sublime revelation of God.
v. Influence: - Possesses an unfailing power to lead men to God and transform their characters and an immeasurable distance separate if from all competitors.
vi. Authority: - It is the court of appeal in religion. W.E HADSTONE said “I have known as good worlds great men in my time, and of there, 87 were follower of the bible, the bible is stamped with a specialty of origin, Queen Victoria of England said, “that book accounts for the supremacy of England DV DS CLARK said there is a difference between the bible that no man can fathom; the difference is cause from its origin (God).
It Depths: - How many books can stand even two readings? But the bible can be read hundred of times without it being fathomed or it loosing its interests for the reader.
Its remarkable Circulation: - the most translated and circulated book in the world
Its timelessness: - One of the most ancient books, and yet modern.
Its remarkable preservation in the face of persecution and opposition of science.
Its many fulfilled prophecies.
